Frequently Asked Questions about Hypnotherapy with Stephanie Voss
Is there anything I should do to get ready for hypnosis?
So glad you asked. Please think about why you’re coming in – not only about what your problem is, but what it would be like if you didn’t have it any more. How would things be better? How will you know you’ve achieved your goal?
Also, it really helps if you are NOT CAFFEINATED (at least not within 3-4 hours) and NOT EXHAUSTED (so tired you’ll fall asleep on the couch in the waiting room).
Please fill out a copy of our Client Intake form and bring it with you to our first session.
Clients get better results if they watch the New Client Introduction videos before coming in.
Where is your office?
The office is convenient to most of East Los Angeles and Hollywood, directly between Glendale and Pasadena and near Los Feliz, Burbank, Silver Lake and Atwater. See Contact Stephanie for map and directions.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Call me at (323) 478-1920 to arrange yours.
How long is a session?
Our first session will be 90 minutes – which includes the first half hour as the initial free consultation. If you’re comfortable and ready to get started making up your own mind, we’ll go ahead. If not, you’re free to leave and think it over. Regular sessions last anywhere from 1 hour to 90 minutes and occasionally go over.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Our first hypnosis session usually includes a lot of relaxation and deepening, so it’s very comfortable. Some people feel simply relaxed, others notice a heaviness in their body, while others experience a floating sensation.
Although relaxation is wonderful, you don’t have to be relaxed to be hypnotized. Just as I’m not relaxed when I’m so busy reliving an argument in my head while I’m driving that I miss my exit. In advanced sessions, we may heighten an emotion and follow the “affect bridge” to change your understanding of yourself. Reviewing an eariler event so that you may release it can be a little more like driving through a thunderstorm than lying on a beach — and can bring the same kind of marvelous fresh feeling when the air is cleared.
Will I cluck like a chicken?
Only if that’s your goal.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, feel free bring someone to the initial consultation portion of the session. After that, they’re welcome to wait in the waiting room with tea and magazines, or outside on the covered patio.
Can I be hypnotized?
Almost everyone can learn to guide themselves into hypnosis. There are dozens of techniques and most people respond to many of them. Because hypnosis is a natural state that most people experience daily, it’s mostly a matter of feeling safe and ready to participate.
How many sessions do I need?
Hypnotherapy is basically short-term therapy. Some clients see results in just one session. I generally recommend a minimum of three sessions – that allows us to build up results using several different techniques. Depending on the issue, I may also give you hypnotic recordings for at home listening to reinforce the changes. You can expect to see progress after 4-6 sessions on most issues. Generally speaking, I don’t see people for more than 9 sessions for a single issue.
Do you accept insurance?
Most hypnotherapists do not accept insurance. I will gladly provide a receipt that you may submit for reimbursement. Several insurance companies that will not announce they cover hypnotherapy will in fact pay for some sessions if they are recommended by your physician.
For the most part, hypnotherapy accomplishes goals so efficiently that improvement comes in just 4-6 sessions, so the cost is very low.
Do you have a referral program?
Your referral is my best compliment. I thank you for each successful referral with a 20% discount off your next payment.
