During the next session , you reprogram yourself as a non-smoker and learn how to give yourself a positive, soothing feeling whenever you need it. Then you take home a custom recording to help your healthy habits take root.
Scientific studies show that hypnotherapy is one of the most effective ways of quitting. A recent presentation made in October of 2007 to the American College of Chest Physicians found hypnotherapy was THE BEST METHOD tried. The study followed 67 smokers who wanted to quit after heart or lung problems. Some patients quit Cold Turkey, some used Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), and others used hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy worked best: 50% of those who used hypnotherapy were non-smokers 6 months later.
What may be surprising is that the absolute WORST method was NRT alone. Those who tried to quit while still absorbing nicotine had only a 16% success rate after 6 months.
Cold turkey worked a little better. About 25% of those who did it on their own stayed off tobacco for 6 months. And this is a higher statistic than usually cited for cold-turkey quitters. That's probably because this was a highly motivated group of people who had been hospitalized for lung or heart problems.
It's hard to get good statistics on hypnotherapy. The technique used, along with the training, skill, and personality of each hypnotherapist are all variable hard to account for in data.
THE PERSONALITY AND THE METHODS OF THE HYPNOTHERAPIST MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Years ago, when I first tried to quit smoking with hypnosis, I saw a very nice therapist in San Francisco. He basically read me a generic script that talked a lot about the toxins in tobacco. I quit for about 60 days. The first time I felt really stressed, I started smoking again. When I finally quit for good, a hypnotherapist with better training made sure I left with a technique that helps me feel more comfortable in any situation.
There are a lot of reasons people smoke -- some of yours probably made sense at one point in your life. But when you decide to let go of the habit, you'll be amazed at how easy it can be.
Quitting smoking won't change your whole life. It will just give you a life to change.
