Here's more information about Hypnosis and reproductive issues:

Fertility

Hypnosis has been shown in some studies to increase conception by as much as 10% in women with unexplained infertility. *

This makes sense, as the first benefit of hypnosis is relaxation. We certainly have all heard those stories about couples who stop "trying" to get pregnant, or who adopt, and suddenly find themselves expecting the unexpected. Unfortunately, relaxing isn’t as easy as it sounds – it’s like falling asleep. The harder you try, the tenser you become. Hypnosis is just a simple way of bypassing the worrying part of your mind, the conscious mind, and letting the rest of you get the rest you need.

Then there’s the mind-body connection.  When you learn to put your body in homeostasis – in balance – your reproductive system works more smoothly. Your subconscious mind controls your bodily functions including hormone production. One aspect of hypnotherapy helps you deal with all of your emotions, including those hidden parts of yourself that might have doubts or worries about parenthood. One theory about the increase in fertility when couples adopt is that it’s more than relaxation – the simple fact of being a parent overcomes those tiny insecurities that have interfered with the complex reproductive system.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, hypnosis helps minimize nausea. Other side effects, including backache, can be less troublesome.

Birth

Then, usually at the beginning of the third trimester, hypnotherapy is used to reassure, relax and prepare for the most simple, natural birth possible.

[Natural birth is not just an emotional choice -- it can be a matter of life and death. A troubling article in the Los Angeles Times, May 17, 2009, cites the trend toward inducing labor and cesearian birth as raising  the maternal death rate in the U.S.   Click on our NEWS page to learn more.]

So many of us have been hypnotized to believe that birth is always painful. Not so. Some women who prepare for birth with hypnosis never experience labor pains. Other women simply find that hypnosis is more effective in lessening discomfort than popular breathing techniques.
When your body is prepared for the surges of energy that push forth a baby, riding that wave is a different experience than bracing for a contraction. You probably know that hypnosis is routinely used for pain control; you can actually turn down the dial to lessen physical sensations and to reinterpret them.

During labor, you may use another technique called time dilation. Everyone understands that time is relative – some moments pass quickly, while others seem to last forever. With hypnotherapy training, contractions seem to fly by in an instant and the time between them seems longer and calmer.

Are you willing to sacrifice the sacrifice?

Birth with no screaming? Little or no pain? Is it even worth the bother?  One woman who used hypnosis for childbirth jokes that her biggest complaint is having no horrible labor story to hold over her kid’s head. “I can never say to him, ‘I spent 16 hours in agony, you could at least clean your room!’”

Birthing rooms where moms and their partners are using hypnosis are known for being remarkable calm and quiet. Many parents who use hypnosis note that their babies themselves seem remarkable calm and quiet. Perhaps there is something fundamentally soothing about being welcomed into the world this way.

Finally, if surgical procedures are necessary, hypnotherapy has been proven to reduce bleeding, reduce the amount of anesthesia needed and to speed recovery. **  Hypnosis is also cited by WebMD as an effective method of changing the position of breech babies.

Remember

Like most health-related services, hypnotherapy is only as effective as the practitioner. It's important to work with someone credible, reliable, certified and who understands the uniqueness of each client's experience.

Don't work with someone unless you feel comfortable with them. The sooner you call Voss Hypnotics to set up your free initial consultation, the sooner you can relax.

*A team at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, Israel found that hypnosis doubled the success of IVF Treatment. Eliahu Levitas studied 185 women and found that 28% of women in the group who were hypnotized became pregnant, compared with 14% of those who were not. The Israeli researchers were looking at hypnosis in the embryo transfer stage of IVF.  See Article Israeli study proves hypnosis can double IVF success rate published 8/22/04 at www.ourjerusalem.com:

** A study cited in the May, 2001, Journal of Family Practice, found that hypnotherapy reduces pain and the need for anesthesia. Dr. Paul G. Schauble and colleagues at the University of Florida in Gainesville studied 42 pregnant teenagers. Half received counseling. Half received four sessions of instruction in self-hypnosis for childbirth. Teens in the hypnosis group learned deep relaxation and imagery techniques to help them cope with pain. They also received suggestions to help them respond to possible complications and boost their confidence in their ability to manage anxiety.  According to the report, only 1 of 22 patients in the hypnosis group remained in the hospital longer than 2 days after delivery, compared with 8 of 20 patients who did not learn self-hypnosis. None of the patients in the hypnosis group needed surgical intervention, compared with 60% of those in the non-hypnosis group. In addition, fewer patients in the hypnosis group experienced complications such as high blood pressure or vacuum-assisted delivery, opted for medical anesthesia or oxytocin, or required medication after delivery.
