Working in person allows us to truly connect. Plus, it's lovely to nestle into the plush recliner that is our "hypno-chair." After the first visit, you might find that simply settling into it can take you into a state of deep relaxation!

 

    Practical information:

Our initial session will run between 90-minutes and 2 hours. We'll have a chance to answer any questions you might have about hypnosis and figure out exactly what you want to accomplish.   

Returning sessions usually run between 75-90 minutes. Please allow two hours, if you can, just in case we run over from time to time.  Unlike conventional therapy, we're not merely talking about problems, but connecting with the feelings underneath them, so we take all the time we need to wrap up each session.

Hypnotherapy is generally short-term. Even though single sessions can sometimes be quite effective, I generally recommend a minimum of 3 sessions for the simplest issues and a 90-day or 6-month package for chronic or severe problems. This way we not only approach a problem from several directions, we have time to practice stress-relief techniques, so those old habits never have an excuse to weasel back into your life.  

Pain-Taming, IBS and Weight Loss packages also include extras like recordings for at-home practice, journal prompts, email support and more.

Working online:  

Some of my colleagues call it "Skypenosis" and it's a lot of fun. [I actually use Skype, FaceTime or a program called Zoom for video conferencing.] Of course the best part is that we can work together all over the world.


What's the most important factor to a successful online session? Arranging your space and time so you won't be interrupted by noise, kids, barking dogs, squawking parrots or plumbers (to name a few of the things that have added challenge to this work in the past!)

 

When we work via video-conferencing, I suggest you use a gaming headset -- that is, an over-the-ear headset with a microphone. Ear buds will work if that's all you have and if you're comfortable in them. We connect online and chat for a bit. While we can see one another, I can demonstrate techniques such as belly breathing or bilateral stimulation.

 

When the formal hypnosis begins, you'll find a safe and comfortable place where you can sit or lie back. You'll  position your device so that your camera shows your face and torso, so I can see your expression and monitor your breathing. Propping a laptop, ipad or phone on a side table works beautifully. For this portion of our session, I'll turn off my camera to save bandwidth, as you may have your eyes closed to relax more completely and there's no need to see me. 

There is something quite lovely about being in your own safe and comfortable environment, listening to a friendly voice guiding you softly into that deep place inside where your inner mind decides what happens next.
